We are offering this wonderful antique French puppet theater. The theater is made of wood with elaborate trimmings. The gold structure at the very top appears to have been added later. It has a red velvet curtain with gold metallic fringe and an original backdrop, which is an oil painting on canvas of a woods scenery. The theater is named Guignol, after the main character in a French puppet show which has come to bear his name.
The side panels are framed in wood with the original red silk fabric panels. There is a hole in one of the silk panels about the size of a quarter as shown in the fourth picture. Also shown in the fourth picture is where the wood frame has separated from the wood on the top portion. The sides fold in for easy storage and the scenery which rests on the top of the sides can be rolled up for storage. It measures 43.5” tall, 21” wide and 11” deep. Don’t miss out, it’s a wonderful piece of French history and stunning colorful display.
